Plant Material of newly bred varieties is the Intellectual Property of the Owner, the breeder, the University.

Proprietary varieties are licensed by Strieminetica under agreement to growers and wineries to grow vines, produce crop and make wine.
 

The ownership is enforced and protected with the help of DNA fingerprint techniques.
 

The DNA fingerprint can be analyzed from plant tissue (stem, leaf, grape etc.), juice and wine.

For example: the DNA fingerprint made with SSR markers demonstrates that Traminette grape inherited the DNA profile from its parents.
